A fundraising concert for New York’s homeless, featuring the New York premiere of the award winning STREET REQUIEM for those who have died on the street.
by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne & Jonathon Welch
Saturday 24 September at 8pm
Mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade leads a cast of opera and musical theater performers, special guest artists including Liz Callaway, Daniel Rodriguez, The Highland Divas, Matthew Lee Robinson together with the Sing The World massed Choir from the USA and Australia, conducted by Dr Jonathon Welch AM and Dr Kathleen McGuire.
STREET REQUIEM aims to bring a sense of peace, remembrance, and hope to communities struggling to come to terms with street violence, war, and a loss of safety.
The composers utilize gospel, Celtic, neo-Romantic, neo-Baroque, indigenous, and contemporary genres and instrumentation to reflect the multicultural and multi-faith traditions of modern city living. This performance marks the work’s New York City premiere, and will help raise funds and awareness for the homeless.
