As part of our Melbourne International Singers Festival we are proud to present:
STREET REQUIEM
for those who have died on the street
Created by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne and Jonathon Welch, STREET REQUIEM aims to bring a sense of peace, remembrance and hope to communities struggling to come to terms with street violence and a loss of safety on our streets. It is a highly accessible, contemporary work including additional English, African and Persian lyrics alongside a modern setting of the traditional Latin texts. While at times deeply moving, the work is essentially optimistic and uplifting. The composers have utilised gospel, Celtic, neo-Romantic, neo-Baroque, Indigenous and contemporary genres and instrumentation to reflect the multicultural and multi-faith traditions of modern city living.
We are delighted to be joined by our guests, Dr Jonathon Palant and the Credo Choir from USA, who will be singing in this inspiring performance of STREET REQUIEM, at Melbourne Recital Centre. This moving performance will feature internationally acclaimed soloists, Liane Keegan, Jonathon Welch AM and Claire Patti, together with the 200 voice massed STREET REQUIEM chorus conducted by Dr Kathleen McGuire and Dr Jonathon Welch AM. Supported by THECHO!R and Credo Choir (USA).
